Dead Of Night (II)
This piece was composed for the Dead Of Night development team. Dead of Night is a video game modification based on Valve Software's Source Engine. The general game concept is that of vampires versus human slayers, with the ultimate goal of one team wiping the other team out. It's a unique cat / mouse game where both sides have very different play styles.
The game has a very dark, oppressive and often gothic atmosphere in keeping with conventional vampiric lore, so I tried to capture that in this song, which was built to serve as the games main menu music/theme title. The goal here was to essentially create a song which wasn't too distracting (in keeping with background music) but had enough power and identity to stand on its own if need be. Like most of my work, it is highly progressive, featuring a very dark, brooding cello / double bass section and a basic violin section which then evolves to heavy, plodding guitar and drumming for the finale. The song also features an homage to one of my favorite vampire movies at fade out
.

Quiet Journey
This piece is rather short, and has a quiet, contemplative sort of sound. It was actually made really just to play with a new orchestral library that I purchased, so I was experimenting with the dynamics functions (legato playing, crescendos, etc.). Takes a lot more work in the programming but it sounds pretty natural I think. The Alto flute in particular I think sounds quite nice.
