For the last 2 weeks that have just passed I've had the pleasure of working with a friend of mine from work and some of his friends in the recreation of a popular song by AJ Rafael entitled "When you say" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUMe_1oL8tg). It's a sort of acoustic take on the original, with all instrumentation and vocals performed by Daniel Nguyen, Mia Gonzales, Billy Pangilinan, José de Leon except for the orchestration near the end, which was arranged by my self.

Naturally, all recording, mixing and production was also done by my self here in my studio.

This track was a huge learning experience for me, if only because the pop rock genre is something i've simply never produced before, consequently, I learned a ton from working on this particular track, especially in terms of vocal work. I'm not completely satisfied with how the vocals turned out in light of the fact i'm really not too confident I know what it is i'm doing exactly, but the track nonetheless still came out pleasing to listen to, even if the music style isn't quite my cup of tea. I've put the track up on my soundcloud, have a listen below!

Also, yes, I do have more of my own music coming, i've been having some trouble finding a satisfying way to finish some of my current tracks in production. Writers block, I guess. I'll get there, eventually, I hope!

Right, so this particular piece took me an unusually long time to finish, as in like, a month and a half worth of work. It's a nearly 6 minute long epic prog rock sort of mashup with orchestrated elements, guitar solo wankery, and... well, the same old from me, basically.

Once again i've tried to push my mixing skills to their limit, with a VERY busy and complex mix in this one, probably my fullest mix to date, there is a TON of layering that took a lot of time in order to get to blend without sounding muddy, but the song seems to flow well with a rather nice acoustic/solo section near the beginning which i'm pretty fond of, and it has probably one of my most powerful and heavy climaxes to date. This is likely to going be the last really heavy song from me for a while as i'd like to experiment with some other styles in the coming weeks.

Anyways, enjoy!

I've been on a bit of an acid jazz kick lately thanks to my brother, so I thought it'd be fun to try my hand at doing something sort of similar but in my typical trademark fashion of melding it into a highly progressive structure. The first half of this song has a strong, steady bass line with a calm, simple and detailed drum backing without too much deviation. It borders on simple ambient, almost. Towards the middle the song takes a bit of a breather and gains more of a blues vibe, and then finally comes together in an explosive finish with a bit of a Porcupine Tree flair (I confess, i've been listening to them a lot too lately ).

Fun facts: First song i've done in 3/4 time. First song utilizing the new Amplitube 3 from IK Multimedia for all stringed instruments (amazing!) and first song i've ever managed to get a drum sound i'm completely happy with. The presets that I used for some of the instruments in this song (drums & guitar) will be available in the downloads section.

Edit: I apologize for the lousy sound on the Bass at the intro if you are streaming this song, this seems to be some sort of problem with flash and mp3 files, as the weird artifacts do not exist on either versions of the proper download copies below.
